About Me

My photo
The past two years have been all about adjusting to motherhood and finding my way through it via craft. The out pouring of this came in the form of my blog Aunty Mum. Now I'm finally finding my feet, the children are growing, I'm getting some independence and my interests are morphing . . . into cooking. Join me in exploring creativity in many forms, food, fabric, frowns and laughter.

It's been how long?

I cannot quite belive it's been almost two months since I last posted. You see, along with the left hand packing up, my camera has also gone on the blink. I'm afraid I love my photographs when posting so it's been difficult to find the gumption to try and describe life without pictures.

I mean, how could I have described our Birthday Party for the Queen? Here's Janae getting better acquainted with Her Magesty.

Actually, as you can probably tell it's a fake. Mainly Music had a Queen's Birthday Party and took photographs of all the children next to an empty chair. This is what the Lovley Carolyn has come up with as a finished product. Kayley thought the Queen really had come to Mainly Music.

The other big news in our home is the addition of Sam. Feeling very pathetic due to a dose of tonsillitus my mother suggested she get us a kitten, so the children would have something other than me to lavish their affection on. The next day we headed to the SPCA, and I immediately fell in love with this little guy. He was so quiet, purred up a storm as I cuddled him and I knew I had to take him home.

Well, it's certainly given the children something else to love . . . they love him so much they won't leave him alone and I'm surprised he's survived the week he's been in our house. And, he's not so docile any more. Now he attacks my wool, my needles, follows me down the hall and sampers from the floor, up my legs, my back and on to my should for a free ride back to the living room. I can tell you, there have numerous times that I've wanted to drop him back at the SPCA. But, he's part of the family and he stays.

I've been knitting up a storm this winter. I have completed 13 pairs of socks and am contemplating the next couple of pairs. Currently though I am working with this gorgeous stuff. It's a merino and brushed mohair 2ply yarn. It came in a skein and needed winding, and I have to say I'll think twice before I buy in skeins again as it's been a bit of a nightmre. I am using two strands to make a hat for my mother who is consideirng jetting off to the UK in January (brrrr). I was going to make a scarf and have even started, however, it just takes for ever to get anywhere, it's a lacy pattern so I need complete silence to knit it. I'm rethinking that plan.

And here's the first pair of socks I've made of my own design. I did pinch the colour combinations from my trusty sock book. These were make on my first round of tonsillitus. I needed something fairly easy to concentrate on so I started these thinking they'd be for me. However, I was eager to get them finished so made them a little short for my large feet. My mother is never one to turn down a pair of hand knitted socks so gratefully accepted them.

Now it's only a week from school holidays, we've had our own holiday with my parents this weekend and I slept in until 10.30am. You know, it's been so long since I slept in that can't remember when I last did. Now I'm feeling refreshed and ready to do battle again. Hopefully it won't be two months between posts, but it's taking a little longer than I'd expected to save the FlyBuys points for the camera I want. I'll keep you 'posted'.
